Contemplating Loving-kindness - Unit 4

#1
Loving kindness is one of two contemplative practices, the second concept is called "The Subtle mind." I like the way Dacher referred to 'loving kindness.' "Loving kindness attracts loving kindness. Another interesting point is, "you get back what you give." Therefore, why not share, and give, loving kindness? …especially when you expect it to circle back around. The loving kindness practice was interesting in that it provided several opportunities for reflecting on unpleasant events and persons associated with unpleasant experiences. Even though these negative events had been kicked out of my memories and thoughts, every now and then, I would encounter a similar situation or see a person similar to the one I thought I had dismissed. Loving kindness practice emphasized not only forgiving the person or the situation but also showering them with love and kindness. For me, this experience not only erased the negativity but also replaced the same with the positive thoughts of love and mental images of kindness.
#2
A 'Mental Workout,'as presented by Dacher in Integral Health is described as two types of contemplative practice: Loving kindness and the tri-level subtle mind, witnessing, calm adding and unity consciousness. In any event, contemplative practice is an ideal mental workout because it gives me the opportunity to un-attach my mind from the "things" and "stuff" which combine to make up the complexities of daily life. As I become un-stressed, I become more calm and relaxed, which is not only psychologically rewarding but also physically rewarding as well. To ascend through the levels of the subtle mind is to progress towards the goal of psychospiritual empowerment. This brings together the mind, body and spirit in such a way that healing flows to and through all three simultaneously, bringing them all together as one. From this oneness flows happiness, awareness and an undisturbable peace of mind. This is the greatest contribution to my own psychological health and well being.
